scholarship OVERVIEW
At Fighting Chance Initiative (FCI), we believe that every child deserves a foundation that cannot be shaken. Our scholarship program isn’t just about paying for a hobby; it’s about providing a permanent anchor through the discipline of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Our Mission
We identify children facing instability, chaos, or lack of mentorship and place them into a high-accountability environment. By removing the financial barriers to elite martial arts training, we give youth the tools to prove a singular truth: Resilience Starts On The Mats.
The Scholarship Package
An FCI Scholarship is a comprehensive commitment to a child’s development. We don't just open the door; we provide everything they need to walk through it with dignity. Each scholarship covers:
Full Tuition: 100% of monthly membership fees at our partner academy, Fargo BJJ.
Essential Equipment: A high-quality Gi (uniform) and all necessary training gear so the student starts on day one with a sense of belonging.
Long-Term Mentorship: Our scholars aren't just names on a roster. They are paired with coaches and mentors who provide the structure, discipline, and emotional support needed to succeed over a sustained six-month program.
The "Anchor" Philosophy
Life for many of our scholars is a storm of external factors they cannot control. On the mats, that changes.
In Jiu Jitsu, you learn to manage tension, solve physical problems under pressure, and respect both yourself and your opponent. We provide the Anchor—the stable ground—where a child can learn that self-control is the ultimate power. We don't teach children how to fight; we teach them how to stay centered when the world gets loud.
Selection & Accountability
The Fighting Chance Initiative is built on integrity. Scholarships are awarded to youth who demonstrate a need for structure and a willingness to commit to the grind.
Success in our program is measured by more than just stripes on a belt—it’s measured by the resilience, discipline, and confidence our scholars carry back into their schools and their homes.
The Fighting Chance Initiative is a 501(c)(3) Public Charity. All contributions are tax-deductible.

Scholarship Requirements
The FCI Scholarship is a privilege reserved for those ready to commit to their own growth. To qualify and remain in the program, scholars must meet the following criteria:
Demonstrated Need: Applicants must be facing financial barriers, social instability, or a documented lack of consistent mentorship.
Commitment to the Grind: Scholars must commit to an initial six-month program, maintaining an attendance of two classes per week
Accountability: Students must adhere strictly to the FCI Code of Conduct, which mandates absolute respect for coaches, teammates, and the training environment.
Integrity & Effort: We do not require athletic excellence, but we do require an honest effort. Scholars must show up on time, maintain personal hygiene (clean gear), and demonstrate a willingness to learn.
Parental/Guardian Support: Guardians must ensure reliable transportation and support the student’s adherence to academy protocols.
