Privacy Policy

At the Fighting Chance Initiative (FCI), your privacy is a matter of integrity. We collect sensitive information—including financial data and personal narratives—to ensure our scholarships reach the youth who need them most. We handle this data with the absolute confidentiality and respect it deserves.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information that is necessary to verify scholarship eligibility and maintain the operations of our 501(c)(3) mission.

  • Scholar Information: Name, age, school, and training attendance.

  • Guardian Information: Contact details (email, phone, address) for communication and safety.

  • Financial Context: To verify eligibility based on the National Poverty Line, we collect household size and income status. We may also request redacted tax returns or proof of state assistance (SNAP, Medicaid, etc.).

  • Donor Information: Name, contact details, and contribution history for tax-deductible receipting.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used strictly for the following purposes:

  • Eligibility Verification: To ensure our funds are deployed to families facing financial barriers.

  • Program Management: Coordinating classes and safety protocols with our partner, Fargo BJJ Academy.

  • Impact Reporting: We share anonymized success stories and aggregated data with our donors to prove the mission’s success. We will never share a child's specific financial details with donors.

  • IRS Compliance: Maintaining records required for our 501(c)(3) status.

3. Data Protection and Confidentiality

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

  • Access Control: Only authorized board members (such as our Treasurer and Secretary) have access to sensitive financial documents.

  • Third-Party Sharing: We only share necessary scholar names and emergency contact info with Fargo BJJ Academy for the purpose of on-mat safety and attendance tracking.

  • Secure Storage: Digital records are stored in encrypted, secure environments.

4. Media and Public Representation

FCI often documents the "Grind" of our scholars through photos and video to update our supporters.

  • Consent: Specific media release consent is obtained during the scholarship application process.

  • Opt-Out: Parents or guardians may request the removal of specific images of their child from our public platforms at any time.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Review the personal information we have on file for you or your scholar.

  • Request corrections to any inaccurate data.

  • Request the deletion of your data (though this may result in the termination of the scholarship if eligibility can no longer be verified).
